The Kornberg Innovative Bio-macromolecular Drug Research Institute was launched May 10 at the Chengdu Tianfu International Bio-town, Chengdu Hi-tech Zone (CDHT).
The project was led and invested by Nobel laureate Prof. Roger David Kornberg. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006 for his studies of the process by which genetic information from DNA is copied to RNA, "the molecular basis of eukaryotic transcription."
Prof. Kornberg spoke highly of Chengdu and the CDHT, as he mentioned the ample hi-tech talent resources and relatively low operating costs in the city. He noted that the entrepreneur-friendly city with well-established infrastructure and public facilities is an ideal place for startups. "I hope for a long-term partnership with the CDHT in the future," he said.
To date, the Chengdu Tianfu International Bio-town and CDHT have seen the presence of 4 and 6 Nobel winner-led start-up teams respectively.
